5th Grade

In English/Language Arts, using a balanced literacy approach, we will foster a love of reading and writing. Using a combination of read alouds, discussion, independent reading and writing, students will foster a lifelong love of literacy. We will work on the necessary foundational skills in literacy to support future secondary learning.

In math, we will fine-tune the skills previously taught while introducing new concepts using engaging lessons and collaborative activities.  In order to be successful, each student must be responsible for learning their basic facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  With this basic facts foundation, they will be able to grasp concepts such as (but not limited to) long division, fractions, geometry, and personal finance literacy. Our ultimate goal is to have each student well-prepared and confident to transition into Middle School.

In Science we will encourage and enable our 5th grade students to develop inquiring minds and curiosity about science and the world around them.  Students will acquire knowledge, conceptual understanding and skills to solve problems and make informed scientific decisions.

5th graders in social studies will be able to analyze the reasons behind events, make connections, and compare history through the United States.
