The purpose of the NISD Bilingual Education Programs shall be to enable English learners to become proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the English language through the development of literacy and academic skills in the primary language and English.
Elementary Schools (PreK-5)
Bilingual Transitional
Northside’s Transitional bilingual/early exit is a bilingual program model in which students identified as English learners are served in both English and another language and are prepared to meet reclassification criteria to be successful in English-only instruction not earlier than two or later than five years after the student enrolls in school. (§89.1210. Program Content and Design)
Bilingual Dual
The NISD Dual Language Bilingual Program model in Northside is research-based. The dual language model seeks to create bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural students by developing their academic proficiency in English and Spanish.
Middle Schools (6, 7, 8)
Bilingual Dual
The NISD MS Dual Language immersion two-way bilingual program model in Northside is research-based. The dual language model seeks to create bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural students by developing their academic proficiency in English and Spanish. Two middle school campuses offer a dual language immersion two-way bilingual program.
