The NISD Dual Language application is now available for the 2022-2023 school year! We are now accepting applications for students who will be in Kindergarten or first grade next year to participate in the district’s dual language program. The purpose of the NISD bilingual education programs shall be to enable English learners to become proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the English language through the development of literacy and academic skills in the primary language and English.
English as a Second Language
Northside's ESL Program provides intensive instruction in English. The focus is to improve students' English language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The goal of the program is to develop competence in English while valuing the academic and cultural experience of the student. Additionally, the NISD Newcomer ESL program provides a specially designed curriculum that helps acculturate recent immigrant English learners to their new country, new school, and new language within a safe, supportive environment.
Student Placement Center
A student is referred to the Student Placement Center if a language other than English is indicated on the required federal Home Language Survey as part of the district registration process.

Parent support links include information to help families better understand the process of second language acquisition and resources to help families as their children acquire English, Spanish and maintain their own home language.
