Dear Fernandez parents and guardians,

I am very excited to introduce myself to you as the principal of Fernandez Elementary School. It is truly an honor to be a member of a community with such a great reputation for meeting the needs of its students!

Education is a second career for me. I was an Active Duty Army medic for eight years when I realized I wanted to become a teacher. The military brought me to Texas, and I began my career as a Special Education teacher in Northside ISD. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work as a 4th grade teacher and a behavior coach. After earning my administrator’s certificate, I also worked at our district’s central office in the Curriculum and Instruction department. I have had the privilege of serving as the Vice Principal of two NISD elementary schools: Valley Hi ES and Galm ES.

There is power in education. I believe that all students can achieve greatness when provided the love, knowledge, and the skills they need to succeed. I am honored to be part of the team that will provide the love, knowledge, and tools I just described.

Our goal at Fernandez is to ensure every child becomes an independent thinker and lifelong learner. By working with our campus community, we will continue to make this goal a reality.

Yours in service,

Frank Johnson

My name is Rebecca Zamora-Barraza and I am honored to serve as the Associate Principal of Fernandez Elementary!
I am a proud UTSA Roadrunner! After earning my Bachelor’s degree from UTSA, I decided to continue my educational journey back at UTSA to earn my Masters in Educational Leadership.
Education is my passion and I have had the privilege to work with elementary and middle school students for the past 12 years. My experiences as an educator have greatly influenced my personal and professional growth as a leader, where I now have the opportunity to support students and teachers.
My belief is that every student deserves to have the best educational experience in every classroom, every day! I look forward to working with our faculty and staff to serve our Fernandez students, parents, and community.
