Athletics - Basketball Boys 7th & 8th Grades

Basketball Tryout Information
7th GRADE 2021 8th GRADE 2021

All athletes, to be eligible to try out must have a physical on the Northside I.S.D. form, all rank one paperwork and insurance completed and on file by Friday October 22nd @ 4:00pm no exceptions! Athletes who played football here at Garcia will already have all the necessary paperwork on file.

Tryouts will be November 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. There will be two groups everyday at tryouts. Group 1 will be last name A-M and will need to report no later than 6:15am. Group 2 will be last name N-Z and will need to report no later than 7:15am. Each group will have the same amount of time to try out each day with the same evaluations. Athletes trying out in group 2 (last name N-Z) will need to eat breakfast at home prior to tryouts or bring their own breakfast from home to eat after tryouts. Group 1 will be able to eat breakfast in the cafeteria if they choose to do so after tryouts. Athletes will need to be dropped off in the bus loop each morning . Tryouts are closed to everyone except our athletes and our coaches. We will hand out letters after school on November 4th informing athletes of their tryout results. For Tryouts all athletes will wear their P.E. black shorts and their gray PE or Athletic shirt with their name on it, tennis shoes, and if socks are visible they must be black or white. Please bring your own water bottle. No jewelry, no wristbands and no headbands will be allowed. Any athlete that needs constant reminders to follow the rules and uniform policy will be asked to leave the tryouts. Some of the skills the athletes will be evaluated on are: Right/Left Dribbling, Pivoting, defensive footwork, Right/Left Lay-ups, Rebounding, Jump shooting, 3 on 2 and 2 on 1transition, 5 on 5 scrimmaging (moving with and without the ball, finishing with the ball, defense on the ball, defense away from the ball etc.). Anyone who played football here at Garcia will already have all the necessary paperwork on file. Athletes will need to inform Coach Kraft, Coach Gonzales, Coach Barrientes, or Coach Villarreal of their intent to try out or they will not be able to.

Tryouts will be broken down into two separate groups due to football season ending at different times for certain groups

A Team Football:

November 2nd and 3rd starting during 8th period and lasting till 5:15. Nov.4th afternoon(starting during 8th period till 5:15) and Nov. 5 am (7am till 830)

Afternoon Tryouts: 8th grade tryouts will start during 8th period and carry over till after school from 3:15 until 5:15 p.m. Morning Tryouts: 8th grade will report at the earliest 6:45. Tryouts will start at 7am and go until 8:30 in order to give time to get ready for 1st period. Tryouts are closed to everyone except our athletes and our coaches. Cuts will be made on November 4th. For Tryouts all athletes will wear their P.E. black shorts and their gray PE or Athletic shirt with their name on it, tennis shoes, and if socks are visible they must be black or white, a mask, and a good size water bottle. No jewelry, no wristbands and no headbands will be allowed. Any athlete that needs constant reminders to follow the rules will be asked to leave the tryouts. No loud colored basketball shoes will be allowed during the season at practice or for the games.  (example all colors such as pink, yellow, orange, green, etc. or fluorescent type colors) please try and stay within our school colors (any combination of black, white, silver or gray) when buying your basketball shoes for those of you that make the team. Any color is fine for tryouts.
