Athletics - Basketball Boys 7th & 8th Grades

Participation in any NISD athletic program requires the completion of the 6 forms on the RankOne site. PRINTABLE physical forms are found on RankOne. Submit printed copies to Boys Head Coach - Coach Barrientes. Please review the Garcia 7th/8th Grade 2020-2021 Athletic Paperwork Letter before completing the forms.

All athletes, to be eligible to try out must have a physical on the Northside I.S.D. form, some form of insurance and all other paperwork completed and on file by Friday 4:00pm November 6th no exceptions!   Anyone who played football here at Garcia will already have all the necessary paperwork on file. 

Athletes will need to fill out the interest form in order to reserve a spot in tryouts. Tryouts will be November 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th. Athletes will be broken into 2 separate pods. Pod A will go on the 10th and 12th while Pod B will go on 11th and 13th. Pods will be assigned the Friday before tryouts.    7th grade tryouts will be in the morning from 6:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m.  Check in time for 7th grade will be from 6:10-6:25. All athletes will have their “Green Screen,” physical, and rankone online paperwork. For 7th grade tryouts all athletes will be dropped off and picked up on the side of the school closest to the football field and the gym. There will be a coach outside at the drop off spot . 8th grade tryouts will be after school from 3:45 until 5:45 p.m. Check in time for 8th grade athletes will be from 3:30-3:45. 8th grade virtual learners will be dropped off on the side of the school closest to the football field and gym and picked up for all athletes will be there as well.  Tryouts are closed to everyone except our athletes and our coaches.  Cuts will be made on November 13th.  E-mails will be sent for confirmation of making the team or not making the team. These will be sent out after the work day on Friday, November 13th. 7th grade can expect these by 5pm and 8th grade by 6pm. 

For Tryouts all athletes will wear their P.E. black shorts and their gray PE or Athletic shirt with their name on it, tennis shoes, and if socks are visible they must be black or white and a mask.  No jewelry, no wristbands and no headbands will be allowed.  Any athlete that needs constant reminders to follow the rules will be asked to leave the tryouts.  No loud colored basketball shoes will be allowed during the season at practice or for the games. (example all colors such as pink, yellow, orange, green, etc. or fluorescent type colors) please try and stay within our school colors (any combination of black, white, silver or gray) when buying your basketball shoes for those of you that make the team. Any color is fine for tryouts. 

Some of the skills the athletes will be evaluated on are:  Right/Left Dribbling, Pivoting, defensive footwork, Right/Left Lay-ups, Rebounding, Jump shooting, 3 on 2 and 2 on 1transition, 5 on 5 scrimmaging (moving with and without the ball, finishing with the ball, defense on the ball, defense away from the ball etc.).
