All students at Health Careers High School will take their core classes along with Principles of Health Science and can then choose to focus on one of these strands of education:
Students may also take Advanced Placement and Dual Credit classes to earn credit for college coursework concurrent with a high school course. Students earn credit through Northwest Vista College, and the credit can transfer to all public colleges and universities in Texas.
Internship/Externship Opportunities – Students at Health Careers High School have many opportunities for internships and externships including those in medical, research, dental, pharmaceutical, biomedical engineering or related career fields at the following locations:
- University Hospital
- UT Health Science Center
- Methodist Specialty Transplant Hospital
Mentorship Opportunities - PHOENIX CONNECT MENTORING PROGRAM
All 9th graders are assigned a Mentor Team that is comprised of staff members and upperclassmen students. They meet once a month to answer questions about the school, activities, and how to succeed. They set goals and work towards achieving them. They also build positive relationships that help freshmen become connected to the campus.
The mission of HCHS is to equip students to serve their communities with compassion, integrity, and excellence by engaging them with a rigorous and comprehensive academic program focused on an exploration of health professions and real-world applications of medical knowledge and skills. Health Careers High School is designed for students whose interests lie in careers in the allied health fields and medicine. The enrollment of Health Careers High School is not restricted by specific geographical boundaries and is comprised of all ethnic and socio-economic groups from San Antonio, Bexar County and the surrounding communities.
