Cross Country

Cross Country is a sport that involves competing at a distance of 3.1 miles. If you are serious about Cross Country your season is made in the Summer and you should begin your training now. Captain practices begin early August. Official tryouts will be August 5, 2024. For tryouts, you are expected to be able to run 2 miles under 20 minutes without walking. Tryouts/Practices are held at Health Careers High School on weekdays at 7:30am from August 5-August 19, 2024. Meets are usually held Saturday mornings. Beginning Monday, August 19 (the first day of school) practices begin at 6:30am and will continue until the end of the season. During the season the period will be used as a study hall. Once the season is over, early morning practices will end and the athletes will practice during their Cross Country class period. This will prepare the athletes for both Track season and the next Cross Country season. HCHS Tennis is a competitive program playing in Region 4, District 27-6A.

Health Careers has an enrollment of around 850 and is a free-standing magnet school in the heart of San Antonio’s Medical Center. In district, we compete against Clark, O’Connor, Marshall, Holmes, Jay, Taft, Stevens, Warren, Brandeis and Brennan. During the past 15 years, HCHS has competed against perennial powerhouses such as Westlake, New Braunfels, Reagan, Alamo Heights, Harlingen South and numerous others. The program has been to regionals 8 out of the 11 years. Plus during the individual season which takes place in the spring our school has had its share of regional qualifiers in boys singles, girls singles, girls doubles. boys doubles and mixed doubles. From 2004 to 2007 we have had state qualifiers in girls singles and mixed doubles.
