Dual Language Immersion Two-way Bilingual Program
The NISD Dual Language Immersion Two-way Bilingual Program model is research-based. The dual language model seeks to create bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural students by developing their academic proficiency in English and Spanish. Our goal is to achieve academic excellence, and honor multiculturalism through meaningful learning experiences that inspire students' confidence, curiosity, and capability.
Transitional Bilingual Academic Program
The NISD Transitional Bilingual Academic Program model teaches the state required Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The research-based program uses the child’s primary language for instruction as he or she learns the second language (English) and achieves academic success. Our goal is to achieve academic excellence, and honor multiculturalism through meaningful learning experiences that inspire students' confidence, curiosity, and capability.
Dual Language Application Process (English/Español)
This is a general timeline. Some of these dates are subject to change based on District recommendations and individual campus resources. Este es un calendario general. Algunas fechas están sujetas a cambios según las recomendaciones del Distrito y los recursos individuales de cada escuela.
January 31 (ongoing)
- Applications for participation in the program will be accepted on the NISD Dual Language website. https://duallang.nisd.net
March 21
- The Dual Language Lottery will take place.
- Applications will continue to be accepted. Placement will be considered based on space availability in individual campuses.
April - May
- Dual Language campuses will use the lottery results to create their class lists.
- Schools will begin communicating to families acceptance or waitlist status. They will also send official notifications through email.
May - June
- Campuses will continue to work to finalize their dual language class rosters.
- Applications will continue to be accepted and placement will be considered based on space availability in individual campuses.

PK-8 Trajectory Framework
NISD Dual Language Trajectory - A strong foundation in Spanish is required for overall success in secondary classes, which at the middle school level include Pre-AP & AP Spanish, as well as Social Studies in Spanish.
