Bluebonnet Reading Club/Club de Lectura Bluebonet
Available for third, fourth and fifth grade students: The purpose of the book club is to: engage students in different styles of reading, enhance critical thinking skills, and to promote literacy through new approaches. The Book Club will be held after school and will be limited to (10) students. Due to the limited amount of spots, all students will be selected using a lottery process. El propósito de este club de lectura es: involucrar estudiantes en diferentes estilos de lectura, desarrollar sus habilidades de usar pensamiento crítico y para promover la literatura a través de nuevos enfoques. Crazy8's Math Club
Available for kinder, first and second grade students: Crazy8’s Math Club is an 8-week afterschool program that gets Leon Valley students excited about math. They'll build glow-in-the-dark structures, crack secret spy codes and play get-up-and-move games like Toilet Paper Olympics! Crazy8’s Math Club will meet after school. There are limited spaces available. The purpose of the Garden Club at Leon Valley Elementary is to introduce students to ways we can grow our own plants and food, to inspire the desire to create a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment for all living creatures, and to encourage students to continue learning about the natural world.

Girls on the Run
Mission Statement We inspire 3 rd - 5 th grade girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. The self-esteem fitness program is designed for pre-teen girls to: • Discover the benefits of consistent physical exercise and good nutrition. • Improve her body image and strengthen her sense of identity. • Learn the advantages of positive peer support. • Learn to stand up for herself in a healthy manner. • Prepare to participate in a 5k run/walk event. |
Leon Valley Safety Patrols
We are the Leaders of tomorrow. Our responsibilities are to greet and assist students in the student drop off and pick up areas of the school crosswalk safely. We also raise our three school flags with Respect and Honor. Safety Patrols help with school events throughout the year, Bicycle Rodeo being one of those huge events. We are nominated by our Fourth grade teachers for our best behavior, attitude, and most importantly, our hard work. We start by being trained towards the end of our Fourth grade year by responsible Fifth grade Safety Patrols and Mr. Hernandez. Three teams are created from a group of thirty students, all which rotate once every three weeks for the whole year. |

Available to second grade students: This program will encourage kids to use different materials to create fun projects, while incorporating math and science concepts. Available for first grade students: The purpose of this book club is to teach students about accountable talk through literature. Research shows that allowing students to talk with each other about books improves their literacy development. In this book club students will learn to discuss books, share emotions about the characters and make connections to their own lives. The Book Club will be held after school and be limited to (10) students. Due to the limited amount of spots, all students will be selected using a lottery process. Robotics Club
Available for fourth and fifth grade students: The robotics team is looking for up and coming 4th and 5th grade students that are highly motivated and hardworking that would like to be part of an amazing team. We work with building and programming robots from the ground up using materials and software that has been developed by Lego. Our students learn to problem solve and use a variety of skills such as coding, were they will continue to develop from year to year. Our robotics team will open the door to a whole new set of careers for the future. The robotics team frequently participates in the FIRST LEGO League competition. This competition is made up of different components which involve a research project, presentation, team building, and robotic game challenge. The students compete in teams of 6 to 8 students and is a qualifier for a much larger competition. The team will consist of two coaches that will support and guide our students throughout the year. We look forward to providing a rich and fun learning environment that will motivate our students. Our program will continue to grow in the future and we look forward to working together to enrich our students’ lives. Core Values:

Trabajamos con robots de construcción y programación utilizando materiales y software que ha sido desarrollado por Lego. Nuestros estudiantes aprenden a resolver problemas y utilizan una variedad de habilidades como la codificación, donde continuarán desarrollándose año tras año. Available for third grade students: STEAM Team is a club to encourage third grade students to use their creativity to design during several engineering challenges. The challenge is to design Rube Goldberg machines, which are fun, yet complicated, humorous machines that perform a simple task. Disponible para estudiantes de tercer grado: STEAM Team es un club para alentar a los estudiantes de tercer grado a usar su creatividad para diseñar durante varios desafíos de ingeniería. Young Gentlemen's Club
Available for fourth and fifth grade students: The Young Gentlemen’s Organization is a mentoring organization designed to help young boys develop into young gentlemen, who will carry themselves in a gentlemanly manner. The club focuses on fostering respectable young men through character lessons, leadership opportunities and by bringing positive role models within the San Antonio community to club meetings. Some skills they learn during their time in the program include: How to tie a tie. Dress professionally. Learn basic cooking skills. Perform service projects on campus. Conversation skills. How to plan for their futures. Disponible para estudiantes de cuarto y quinto grado: La Organización de Caballeros Jóvenes es un club para después de la escuela diseñado para niños de 4to y 5to grado. El club se enfoca en fomentar hombres jóvenes respetables a través de lecciones de carácter, oportunidades de liderazgo y trayendo modelos positivos dentro de la comunidad de San Antonio a las reuniones del club. Algunas habilidades que aprenden durante su tiempo en el programa incluyen: Cómo anudar una corbata. Vístirse profesionalmente. Aprender habilidades básicas de cocina. Realizar proyectos de servicio en el colegio. Habilidades de conversación. Cómo planificar su futuro. |
