Jessica Ruiz - Principal
¡Bienvenidos a Leon Valley! My name is Jessica Ruiz and it is my privilege and honor to serve as your Principal. My goal for our community will be to focus on high academic expectations, while addressing the needs of the whole child to include character development as well as enriching experiences.
To give you a little information about myself, I was born in Mexico City and grew up in San Antonio. I am a Northside graduate and I have worked as an Educator in this District for over 15 years. My roles with NISD have included: Dual Language Classroom Teacher, Language Support Teacher, and Campus Administrator. My children also attend Northside Schools. As a parent myself, I understand the importance of having our children receive a quality education. I assure you that here in Northside we strive to make every child successful.
One thing I want you to know about me as your Principal is that I have very high expectations for each child, but most of all I believe that learning should be fun and applicable to today’s society and workforce. It is critical that we do everything possible to have our students ready to meet the challenges they will face after they graduate high school.
I look forward to meeting each and every one of you and hearing your thoughts on what will make the school experience you have at Leon Valley Elementary the best you’ve ever had. My door will always be open to you for any questions, concerns, or comments you’d like to share with me. I look forward to meeting and building relationships with our wonderful students, teachers, parents, and community members.

Maria Vela - Associate Principal

My name is Maria Vela. I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. I am a proud Alumni of The University of Texas at San Antonio. Go Roadrunners! In 2011, I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Bilingual Education EC-6 and my Masters degree in Educational Leadership in 2015.
I began my educational career in the San Antonio Independent School District where I taught Pre-k, Kindergarten and Third grade for a total of 7 years. I then transitioned to Northside Independent School District as a Math Specialist at Leon Valley Elementary where I completed 4 years. In my role as a Math Specialist I provided support to teachers and intervention to students. Recently, I served as the Administrator Intern at John Glenn Elementary. At John Glenn I was able to gain knowledge and experiences as an administrator.
Now I am back at Leon Valley as the Associate Principal. I am ready and eager to serve our students, community and staff. I look forward to reaching new heights with my Leon Valley family! Please reach out if you have any questions, comments or concerns. I am here to help in any way possible.
Mi nombre es María Vela. Nací y crecí en San Antonio, Texas. Soy una orgullosa ex alumna de la Universidad de Texas en San Antonio. ¡Vamos Correcaminos! En 2011 obtuve mi Licenciatura en Educación Bilingüe EC-6 y mi Maestría en Liderazgo Educativo en 2015.
Inicié mi carrera educativa en el Distrito Escolar Independiente de San Antonio donde enseñé Pre-K, Kinder y Tercer grado por un total de 7 años. Luego hice la transición al Distrito Escolar Independiente de Northside como Especialista en Matemáticas en la primaria de Leon Valley, donde completé 4 años. Como especialista en matemáticas brindé apoyo a los maestros e intervención a los estudiantes. Recientemente, me desempeñé como Administrador Interna en la escuela primaria John Glenn. En John Glenn pude adquirir conocimientos y experiencias como administradora. Ahora estoy de vuelta en Leon Valley como subdirectora.
