A Little About Myself:
My career in education began in 1988 when I graduated from St. Mary's University. My teaching experience is in grades PreK-5th, with an emphasis on instructional strategies. So, as you can see, I have taught all levels. In 1995, I received my Masters of Education in Educational Administration from Our Lady of the Lake University. I have served as Vice Principal at Powell, Meyers, Valley-Hi, Carson, and Locke Hill Elementary Schools all in NISD. I have also served as Principal at Passmore Elementary, I opened Mead Elementary in 2006. I found my forever home at Leon Valley Elementary.
I have two daughters, Adriana and Iliana, who have both followed in their mother’s footsteps and are both teachers. I enjoy painting, bowling and spending time with my extended family.
It is gratifying to serve as Principal at such an exemplary school. I believe the educational process cannot be completely effective without equal partnership between students, parents, faculty and administration. Today's world relies more on education then ever before. It gives us the skills for everyday living, it gives us the specialized training for a job or career of tomorrow, and it helps us to gain a better understanding of the world in which we live. Most importantly, it helps us to face social changes and adjust to them.

The Vice-Principal also serves as the Campus Behavior Coordinator.
Welcome! My name is Sandra Luna, and I am the Vice Principal here at Leon Valley Elementary School. I am originally from Iowa and received my undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.I have taught in NISD since 1998 and have experience teaching both third and fifth grades. After receiving my masters from Houston Baptist University with a degree in Curriculum and Instruction, I became a Gifted and Talented teacher in 2003. I was a full-time Gifted and Talented/Enrichment Specialist for 13 years in NISD. Upon earning my Educational Leadership degree through the University of Texas at San Antonio, I became an administrator in NISD first at Behlau Elementary and now here at Leon Valley.
I am honored to be a Leon Valley Lion and know this year will be amazing!
