A Little About Myself:
My career in education began in 1988 when I graduated from St. Mary's University. My teaching experience is in grades PreK-5th, with an emphasis on instructional strategies. So, as you can see, I have taught all levels. In 1995, I received my Masters of Education in Educational Administration from Our Lady of the Lake University. I have served as Vice Principal at Powell, Meyers, Valley-Hi, Carson, and Locke Hill Elementary Schools all in NISD. I have also served as Principal at Passmore Elementary, I opened Mead Elementary in 2006. I found my forever home at Leon Valley Elementary.
I have two daughters, Adriana and Iliana, who have both followed in their mother’s footsteps and are both teachers. I enjoy painting, bowling and spending time with my extended family.
It is gratifying to serve as Principal at such an exemplary school. I believe the educational process cannot be completely effective without equal partnership between students, parents, faculty and administration. Today's world relies more on education then ever before. It gives us the skills for everyday living, it gives us the specialized training for a job or career of tomorrow, and it helps us to gain a better understanding of the world in which we live. Most importantly, it helps us to face social changes and adjust to them.
The Associate Principal also serves as the Campus Behavior Coordinator. They can be reached by email at email@example.com or by phone at (210)397-4650.
My name is Jessica Ruiz and it is my privilege and honor to serve as your Vice Principal. My goal for our community will be to focus on high academic expectations, while addressing the needs of the whole child to include character development as well as enriching experiences.
To give you a little information about myself, I was born in Mexico City and I am fully bilingual. I graduated from Taft High School, here in Northside. I have worked as an Educator in this District for 14 years. My roles with the district have included: Dual Language Classroom Teacher, Language Support Teacher, and Administrator. My children also attend Northside Schools. As a parent myself, I understand the importance of having our children receive a quality education. I assure you that here in Northside we strive to make every child successful.
One thing I want you to know about me as your Vice Principal is that I have very high expectations for each child, but most of all I believe that learning should be fun and applicable to today’s society and workforce. It is critical that we do everything possible to have our students ready to meet the challenges they will face after they graduate.
I look forward to meeting each and every one of you and hearing your thoughts on what will make the school experience you have at Leon Valley Elementary the best you’ve ever had. My door will always be open to you for any questions, concerns, or comments you’d like to share with me. I look forward to meeting and building relationships with our wonderful students, teachers, parents, and community members.
