Northside’s High-Quality Prekindergarten Program utilizes an instructional framework that supports a play-based curriculum that prepares students to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. Many of our classrooms have specialized programming that includes bilingual, ESL, and special education. Northside’s Prekindergarten classrooms are taught by teachers with college degrees and Texas certifications with specialized training in early childhood education. All ten domains of the PreKindergarten Guidelines are taught throughout the full-day prekindergarten program. These domains include Social emotional, Emergent Literacy Communication, Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Physical Development, and Technology.

Social and School Etiquette Skills
- Play-based: Provide opportunities for student autonomy by allowing them to select activities based on their personal interests.
- Materials: Provide diverse materials and encourage students to utilize them in a variety of ways.
- Manipulation: Facilitate free exploration, transformation, and manipulation of materials by students, ensuring the methods are age- appropriate.
- Communication: Promote the use of varied language, allowing students to articulate their actions and discoveries in their own developmental capacity.
Academic Skills
- Identify 20 upper and lowercase letters.
- Produce the sounds for 20 letters.
- Count to 30.
- Identify numerals from 0 to 9.
- Demonstrate one-to-one correspondence when counting.
- Add and subtract up to 5 using pictures.
- Identify basic 2D shapes and 3D figures
