I feel pride in sharing that I have served NISD students and families my entire educational career. Through my past work experiences, roles, and schools, my focus and commitment has remained the same- build relationships and make connections. I’ve spent the last 4 years serving and leading at Carlos Coon Elementary. Prior to that, I served both Leon Valley and Boldt Elementary as their full-time Special Education Coordinator. As a teacher, I served the Monroe May community, and began my career as an instructional assistant at Mead Elementary.
My free time is spent with my children, my husband, and our two dogs! We enjoy outdoor activities, going to church, and getting to spend a day or two by the water. I am a true and proud San Antonian- born and raised! I completed my undergrad at UTSA and earned my Masters at Lamar University.
I strongly believe that all children will learn, grow, and thrive, as long as they have the love and support they deserve. I am committed to serving all our Longhorns with pride and passion. Here's to a great year!

Our mission: "Teach the whole child."
Our Vision: Everyday, every student grows in confidence, curiosity, capability, and compassion.

Hello Longhorn families! My name is Matt Scherwitz and I am honored to be the Vice Principal at Los Reyes Elementary. This will be the start of my forth year at Los Reyes. The 2023-2024 school year will be my 20th year in education. I began my career in Northside ISD at Thornton Elementary School where I taught Second Grade for seven years and Fourth Grade for two years. After that I was an Admin Intern at Colonies North Elementary for almost 2 years, before I was promoted to Vice Principal. I served as Vice Principal at Colonies North for a little over three years.
I have lived in San Antonio since I was 2 years old. I attended all Northside schools and graduated from John Marshall High School in 2000. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from McMurry University and my Master’s Degree from Schreiner University. I am a huge college football and basketball fan. I attend all UTSA football games. Go Runners! My family is also a volleyball family. My wife and I are always at events watching our daughters play volleyball.
I am looking forward to another year of working with the Los Reyes staff, students, and families. This school year will look very different due to the current pandemic; our goal at Los Reyes remains the same.
At Los Reyes, we ensure the achievement of EVERY student through meaningful relationships, innovative learning and a commitment to excellence.
