Matthew Scherwitz - Principal

My name is Matt Scherwitz, and I'm honored to serve as Principal at Los Reyes Elementary. The 2026-2027 school year will mark my 23rd year in education. I began my career in Northside ISD at Thornton Elementary School, where I taught second grade for seven years and fourth grade for two years.

I have called San Antonio home since I was 2 years old. I attended Northside schools throughout my education and graduated from John Marshall High School in 2000. I earned my Bachelor's Degree from McMurry University and my Master's Degree from Schreiner University.

Outside of school, I'm a huge college football and basketball fan. My family is also a volleyball family—my wife and I can always be found at events cheering on our two daughters as they play.

I am looking forward to another fantastic year working with the Los Reyes staff, students, and families. Please feel free to contact me anytime with suggestions, questions, or concerns.

Hello Longhorns! I am honored to be a part of this incredible community at Los Reyes as your Associate Principal! This is the beginning of my 11th year in Northside and 15th year in education.

I strongly believe in the importance of building relationships and the impact that has in and out of the classroom. Throughout my time in education, I have seen the value in a partnership that comes from working closely with parents and staff members. My number one goal is that our students feel loved and find a love for learning every day.

I am looking forward to partnering with our Los Reyes staff and parents as we make this year a great one in Longhorn Land!
