Matthew Scherwitz - Principal

Hello Longhorn families! My name is Matt Scherwitz and I am honored to be the Principal at Los Reyes Elementary. This will be the start of my seventh year at Los Reyes. The 2024-2025 school year will be my 21th year in education. I began my career in Northside ISD at Thornton Elementary School where I taught Second Grade for seven years and Fourth Grade for two years. After that I was an Admin Intern at Colonies North Elementary for almost 2 years, before I was promoted to Vice Principal. I served as Vice Principal at Colonies North for a little over three years.

I have lived in San Antonio since I was 2 years old. I attended all Northside schools and graduated from John Marshall High School in 2000. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from McMurry University and my Master’s Degree from Schreiner University. I am a huge college football and basketball fan. I attend all UTSA football games. Go Runners! My family is also a volleyball family. My wife and I are always at events watching our daughters play volleyball.

I am looking forward to another year of working with the Los Reyes staff, students, and families.

Hello Longhorns! I am both excited and honored to be joining this incredible community at Los Reyes as your new Associate Principal! This is the beginning of my 8th year in this incredible district of Northside and 12th year in education.

I strongly believe in the importance of building relationships and the impact that has in and out of the classroom. Throughout my time in education, I have seen the value in a partnership that comes from working closely with parents and staff members. My number one goal is that our students feel loved and find a love for learning every day.

I am looking forward to partnering with our Los Reyes staff and parents as we make this year a great one in Longhorn Land!
