Portrait of Principal Serena Torres
Serena Torres - Principal
Hello Mariner Families! My name is Serena Torres, and I am honored to be the Principal of Murnin Elementary School! I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, as an Army brat while my father was stationed at Ft. Bliss. I attended the University of Texas at El Paso (Go Miners!) for my undergraduate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and earned my Masters Degree in Administration from UTSA. I have had the amazing opportunity of working for Northside throughout my entire educational career. I was a teacher at Meadow Village and Ott Elementary before serving as the Administrator Intern at Glenoaks Elementary. I also had the incredible opportunity to open Mora Elementary in 2018 where I served as Associate Principal for 7 years.

I am passionate about helping students reach their potential, along with teachers and parents, through meaningful relationships and strong academic instruction. I believe that all students can learn and should enjoy their time at school. Relationships between family and school make all the difference. I am excited to work with the students, staff, and families at Murnin to make it a caring and positive learning environment for all!

My name is Laura Sheffield and I am the Associate Principal of Murnin Elementary. I attended The University of Texas at San Antonio, where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and my Masters degree in Educational Leadership.

I was fortunate enough to be a part of the Murnin family when it first opened in 2006. I taught third grade for fourteen years. I was a Math Specialist and instructional coach during my last year at Murnin. In 2002, I left Murnin to work in Central Office in the Office of Teaching and Learning. I am so grateful that I was able to come back to Murnin this year as the Associate Principal.

I look forward to reconnecting with staff, families and our Murnin community. I truly believe that Murnin is a great campus and it is what brought me back. I have three children and all of them have attended Murnin and still remember this as being a great school. I am excited for the new adventure and the school year!
