Safety & Security Drills
Since August, students and teachers have practiced and prepared for various emergency situations. Each month, OHT practices fire drill evacuations. In the coming months, we will also hold our first lockdown drill. This drill is practiced with students by our School Counselor, Mrs. Montoya, and classroom teachers ahead of time. You will NOT receive a formal notification ahead of time. But we will let you know on ClassDojo when we complete a lockdown drill. Lockdown drills will be conducted several times throughout the year.
Please reach out to Mrs. Villanueva, anna.villanueva@nisd.net, our Campus Safety Coordinator, with any questions you may have.
NISD VATRE/Bond Information
At its August 11 Board meeting, the NISD Board voted to place a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE) and several bond packages on the Nov. 3 ballot. The first, Proposition A, is a Voter Approval Tax Rate Election, or VATRE, asking voters to consider a three-cent increase in the maintenance and operations tax rate, roughly $30 more per year for every $100,000 in home value.
The three bond packages (Propositions B, C, and D) total just over $886 million. While the VATRE funds daily operations such as salaries and utilities, bonds finance capital expenses such as construction and renovations.
Under Proposition B, Oak Hills Terrace is slated to receive $45,000,000 to replace our Cafeteria, Kitchen, and Gym. Other funds under Prop B would bring ALE classroom upgrades, safety & security updates, and upgrade technology infrastructure. Our students would also benefit from new buses and bus upgrades within the Culebra substation.
Under Proposition C, Oak Hills Terrace would receive a portion of the $56,000,000 to replace instructional technology.

No Phone Zone
In accordance with HB1481, ALL use of personal communication devices (cell phones, smart watches, personal tablets, etc.) by students are prohibited during instructional hours. Students are permitted to have them on campus, however once they arrive at school, they are to be turned off or placed on “silent” and placed in the student’s backpack throughout the instructional day. Smart watches may not be worn on campus.
If a student is caught using a personal device during the school day on campus, he/she is subject to disciplinary action, which will include the device being confiscated until a parent or guardian can come to the campus and retrieve it from the office.
