Last year, I shared how my office helped lead and fund a new effort to break down barriers for San Antonio’s youth by making VIA transportation accessible for our students.
I’m proud to announce that beginning now, all San Antonio students ages 12–18 are eligible for free bus fare through VIA Metropolitan Transit. Chronic absenteeism is a real challenge in our city, and transportation is often one of the biggest reasons students miss school or can’t stay engaged beyond the classroom.
Access to transportation connects students to school, after-school programs, jobs, and internships. This program is about more than getting to class, it supports full participation and long-term opportunity.
