In Northside, we follow a balanced literacy framework that includes the explicit and systematic teaching of foundational literacy skills.  The instructional components within our balanced literacy framework promote the gradual release of responsibility from teacher to student.  Our students engage in literacy learning during read alouds of mentor texts, shared and performance reading/writing, mini lessons, small group instruction, and independent reading/writing.

Reading development is one of the most important goals of Timberwilde Elementary School. Every staff member is committed to building and sustaining a school culture in which high-quality reading instruction for all students is one of our most important priorities.

Through curriculum, instruction, and professional staff development, the reading department strives to promote life-long literacy and learning for all students at Timberwilde Elementary. Our reading staff includes two full-time reading specialists who work with students in kindergarten through 5th grade using a variety of district-approved intervention programs.
