Sunday Nelson - Principal
Howdy Ward Wranglers!

My name is Sunday Nelson and I am the proud principal of Ward Elementary for the 2020-2021 school year. I didn't start here but got here as fast as I could!

I graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Early Childhood Education. I began my teaching career in Northside Independent School District in 1996, teaching third, second and fifth grades at Braun Station and Mary Michael Elementary. Upon completion of my Master of Arts in Education at the University of Texas at San Antonio, I began my administrative journey at Villarreal Elementary, where I served as Assistant Principal. My next assignment took me to one of Northside's newest campuses, Blattman Elementary, where I was the vice principal for three years.

In my spare time when I am not at school, my time is spent with my three beautiful children. They are the joys in my life and we spend as much time together as possible, whether it is driving to baseball and football practice, games, or dance practice and competitions.
I look forward to working with the students, parents, and community to make this another successful year. Please feel free to stop by, call or email me if you need any assistance.

Together we can Lasso Success!

Welcome to the Vice Principal’s page!

My name is Paul Anthony Alvarez and I have been with Northside ISD for 16 years. I have been with Northside ISD in different roles such as an instructional assistant (Ward ES), special education teacher (Howsman ES and Ward ES), special education campus coordinator (Ward ES) and as an administrative intern (Carlos Coon ES and Glenoaks ES). I was also the Vice-Principal at Christian Evers ES.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Our Lady of the Lake University. I also have a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from UTSA.

I am honored and extremely excited to be back “home” as the Vice-Principal here at Dr. Joe Ward Elementary. I am looking forward in having the opportunity to meet and work with all our little Wranglers, parents and community members.

We are looking forward in having a great 2020-2021 school year!
