Physical Therapy I is designed to provide basic concepts, knowledge, and skills needed to work within physical therapy practice under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist/physical therapist assistant. Specifically, the course focuses on proper management of patient care to safely assist patients/therapists; management of equipment as it relates to physical therapy; strengthening and conditioning; and communication skills to work effectively within a physical therapy practice.

Students study the structure and function of the human body and the interaction of body systems for maintaining homeostasis. Students conduct laboratory and field investigations, use scientific methods during investigations, and make informed decisions using critical thinking and scientific problem solving. Students must meet the 40% laboratory and field work requirement.
