Special Topics: Street Law (11-12) #4679

This course focuses primarily on the judicial system- both the criminal and civil courts.  This course will examine the rights of those accused of a crime as well as legal rights in civil matters such as lawsuits and liability allegations.  This course is a one-half elective credit and can count towards the elective credits for social studies.  NOTE: Social Studies Special Topics can be taken for a combined two total credits.

This course examines the major cultural, political, economic and environmental issues facing the various regions of our world. Coursework will focus heavily on the role the United Nations and US foreign policy plays in global affairs. Research projects, in-class simulations and participation in Model United Nations are important components of the course.

In Ethnic Studies: Mexican American Studies, an elective course, students learn about the history and cultural contributions of Mexican Americans. In AP Capstone Year 2, these students will enroll in AP Research. This yearlong U.S History course combines the University at Austin designed college experience in a high school classroom setting. Students engage with high-quality content and build digital literacy skills and have the opportunity to earn three hours of college credit from the University of Texas at Austin.
