Curriculum Overview
The John Jay Science & Engineering Academy offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves into a real-world, hands-on, STEM focused curriculum in the areas of Computer Science, Engineering, Biomedical Science, and Robotics. SEA’s goal is to help it’s students build a strong foundation in STEM with the skills, knowledge and experience they need to be prepared to pursue their future endeavors. 100% of SEA students are accepted to College. The class of 2019 seniors earned over $20 million dollars in scholarships and the class of 2020 earned over $9 million dollars in scholarship last year. Students at the Science & Engineering Academy participate in academic research all four years of high school. The John Jay Science & Engineering Academic Research Symposium is one of the largest in the state with over 600 participants each year and over $500,00 in scholarships awarded to grand prize winners. All students have the opportunity to participate in this fair. Other areas of academic research include History Fair, Robotics, ACE (Architecture Construction Engineering) Mentor Program, SAWS Impact Teams, Destination Imagination, Art in STEM, Cinematic Science (Making connections in science through film), Evolution of games (teaching STEM through games). All SEA students participate in an advanced curriculum including 23 AP courses and several Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment classes.
Mentorship Opportunities
Science & Engineering students have the opportunity to attend STEM related field trips and interact with professionals in the STEM fields throughout the year.
