NISD student is big winner in Texas Cavaliers River Parade Art Contest

A fifth-grade student from Lewis Elementary School is the grand prize winner in the 2022 Texas Cavaliers River Parade Art Contest.

Sofia Liceaga is one of five NISD elementary student finalists. A total of 11 finalists from across the city were selected.

Each finalist received $3,000 for their school’s art program and a one-week summer scholarship to the Southwest School of Art. Each runner up received $1,000 for their school’s art program. NISD had five runner-up winners also.

As grand prize winner, Liceaga received a total of $5,000 for her school’s art program and a summer art program scholarship. Her artwork will be featured on the river parade’s program and she will ride on the Grand Marshal’s float in the 2022 Texas Cavaliers River Parade on April 4. Her artwork will also be wrapped on a Via bus, and she will receive one year of free Whataburger.
