Young NISD artists recognized by Texas Cavaliers in River Parade Art Contest

Four young NISD artists are finalists in the 2023 Texas Cavaliers River Parade Art Contest. They were chosen from among more than 1,000 entries from 67 schools across the city to represent one of ten city council districts and one at-large position.

Each finalist receives $3,000 for their school’s art program and a one-week summer scholarship to the Southwest School of Art. Their artwork will also be showcased as a wrap on a Via bus for six months.

The finalists are Zoe De Hoyos, a fourth-grade student at Forester Elementary School; Abigail Haugen, a fifth grader at Raba Elementary School; Skye Myers, a fourth grader at Leon Springs Elementary School; and Zoe Williams, a fifth grader at Kallison Elementary School.

Each runner up receives $1,000 for their school’s art program. NISD had two runner-up winners also. They are Ena Amakusa, a fourth-grade student at Raba Elementary School; and Olivia Pena, a fourth grader at Leon Springs Elementary School.
