Before joining the Northside family, I studied Bilingual Education at UTSA and began my educational career as a bilingual teacher at a neighboring school district. While teaching third and fourth grade, I earned my degree in Educational Leadership and soon after, I was hired as a Bilingual & ESL Facilitator. This gave me the opportunity to work with teachers and students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. I learned and grew so much from this experience.
In 2014, I had the pleasure of joining Northside as an Ellison BEE teaching fifth grade! After one year of teaching at Ellison, I was blessed with the opportunity to serve this amazing community as Vice Principal. Two years later, I became Principal. What a dream come true!
As Principal, my goal is to support and encourage those with whom I work by helping to maintain a shared vision for students, staff, and community members. I believe it is imperative that we work together to embrace a sharing and collaborative school culture that takes risks in an effort to do great things. My belief is that we can only do great things when we lead with love, humility, and hard work! That is my daily commitment! I am passionate about working diligently to ensure our actions support our campus mission and vision. At Ellison, our daily mission is to put students first! Our vision is that every day, every student will grow as compassionate, innovative, leaders!
Please don't hesitate to come by our hive to say hello or to reach out with any questions and/or concerns. Our doors are always open!

Hello BEES!
My name is Elizabeth Hernandez, and I am the proud Associate Principal of Bonnie Ellison Elementary. My career in education started when I graduated from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership also from Texas A&M- University-Kingsville in 2003. My first teaching job began in 1997 in Rio Grande City, TX at Immaculate Conception School as a 4th grade teacher. I then moved back to my hometown and taught at San Benito CISD for 2 years as a 1st grade teacher. My teaching experiences continued in United ISD in Laredo, TX, Southwest ISD, Northside ISD at Passmore Elementary and Mary Michael Elementary for a total of 10 years. I continued my career in NISD as an admin intern at Ward Elementary for one year. After that one year, I had the opportunity to help open a brand new campus as the Vice Principal of Rita Kay Driggers Elementary, and continued my work there for 8 years. Knowlton Elementary then became my home for 5 years, and now I am a part of the BEES family which I am so very happy about! Thank you for welcoming me with open arms! I am here to serve the students, teachers, parents and community in anyway that I can.
