Discovery Time

Discovery Time offers opportunities for students to explore their artistic, musical, athletic and technology talents.  Your child will learn skills such as fine motor, rhythmic patterns, dance, fitness, and coding.  Each teacher uses hands-on techniques for your child to learn things such as clay, paint, musical instruments, climbing rock walls, and learning the parts of a computer or creating google slides for class projects. Fostering the development of our students using the 'whole child approach' is our number one goal.

Elementary School Physical Education

Northside ISD's Elementary Physical Education program derives from the research-based SPARK and CATCH Curriculums. SPARK is a public health organization dedicated to creating, implementing, and evaluating programs that promote lifelong wellness. CATCH is a Coordinated School Health Program with over 25 years of research and the most scientific evidence of effectiveness. Both programs adhere to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, and CATCH is TEA Approved as a Coordinated School Health Program.

FitnessGram

State law requires school districts to annually assess the physical fitness of students enrolled in grade three or higher and to provide the results of individual student performance on the administered physical fitness assessments to the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The Physical Fitness Assessment Initiative (PFAI) is a program designed to collect and analyze the required student physical fitness data.

Parents may request their child's physical fitness assessment results by contacting their child's physical education teacher.

Restricted Physical Education

A student who is unable to participate in the state-required regular PE program due to a specific physiological condition should have a physician complete the Physician's form and will have their program modified.

Welcome to the Fields STEM Lab! STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is one of our Discovery rotations where students participate in hands-on-problem-based learning opportunities that include teamwork, engineering, coding and robotics.  Students use the 4 C’s (communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking), to work together and communicate with each other to come up with creative solutions to real world problems.  Ultimately, our goal is to spark a lasting desire to pursue a career in a STEM field.

NISD STEM Standards

1.     Students will identify problems, design innovative and creative solutions, conduct tests, evaluate results, and redesign while developing grit and determination.

2.     Students will collect and analyze data to explore STEM concepts and ideas.

3.     Students will select and apply appropriate tools and concepts of science, technology, and math to justify their engineering design based on evidence and logical reasoning.

4.     Students will clearly communicate their ideas and designs with peers, give and receive constructive feedback, and use a variety of communication tools.
