Howdy! I'm Ms. Garcia, the librarian here at Hobby Middle School. I'm passionate about creating a library that feels like home for every student--a space where curiosity is encouraged, creativity is celebrated, and readers of all backgrounds feel seen and supported.

Before becoming a librarian, I earned my Master's of Library and Information Science from Texas Woman's University and completed a Bachelor's degree in English from Texas A&M University ('21), which deepened my love for storytelling and information literacy. I've also had the incredible opportunity to work with the Library of Congress Visitor Engagement Office in Washington, D.C., where I helped connect people of all ages to the power of stories and archives.

I love reading fantasy, romance, and realistic fiction, and I'm always excited to share new recommendations or talk about a great story.

My goal is simple: to make the library a welcoming, inclusive space where every student can learn, explore, and grow in their own way!

About Our Library

Welcome to Hobby Library! A space designed for curiosity, creativity, and community. Our library is more than a room full of books; it's the heart of campus learning and discovery. Here, students explore new ideas, collaborate on projects, and build the skills they need to become lifelong learners.

What We Believe

Our mission is to inspire a love of reading, provide equitable access to information, and nurture critical thinkers who use knowledge responsibly. The library is a welcoming space where every student belongs, every story matters, and every question leads to discovery.

What We Offer

  • A Diverse Collection: Thousands of print and digital titles for every reader—fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, manga, and more—selected to reflect our students’ voices, interests, and cultures!
  • Project Support: We partner with teachers on Project-Based Learning (PBL) units to help students research, question, and create. From reliable sources to citation help, the library is your go-to hub for inquiry.
  • Technology & Resources: Students have access to Desktops, Destiny Discover, databases, and digital learning tools that make research and exploration both exciting and accessible.
  • Library Club & Student Leadership: Our Library Club empowers students to take ownership of their space—designing displays, creating bookmarks, and helping manage the library’s daily flow.
  • Creative Programs: From seasonal displays like the “Book Graveyard” to design challenges and author visits, the library hosts fun, themed events that celebrate reading and imagination.

Library Hours

Our library opens each morning from 8:00–8:30 AM to provide students with a calm, focused environment to start their day. During this time, students are welcome to check out books, use the computers, or simply enjoy a quiet space before the first bell.

The library is also open after school until 4:30 PM each day for students who need to return or renew books, ask quick library questions, or take care of brief library needs before heading home.
