STEM Students collaborating in the classroom

STEM Education in Northside ISD

Northside ISD’s STEM Education program provides students with hands-on, real-world learning experiences that integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Through inquiry-based instruction, problem solving, and design thinking, students develop critical thinking and collaboration skills that prepare them for future academic and career success.

At the elementary level, each campus has a dedicated STEM lab where students participate in activities and design challenges that spark curiosity and creativity using knowledge from classroom instruction and tied to a variety of STEM careers.

What is S.T.E.M.

S.T.E.M. stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. While there is no "A" in S.T.E.M., art is another piece that will be incorporated in our lessons as design is a crucial part of creating.

I look forward to working with your Bulldog/s and helping them learn through hands-on projects. In our class, students will have the chance to, as Ms. Frizzle used to say, "take chances, and make mistakes," without worry. The ultimate goal will be the learning and how sometimes we may have to try a few times before our plan "works".

Your student/s will attend S.T.E.M. as part of our Discovery Time Rotation, along with Art, Music, and P.E.

We are on an A/B year schedule to avoid students doing the same projects/activities 2 years in a row.

Our department has restructured our curriculum just a little bit. This will allow us to focus on specific career explorations at each of the grade levels. Our goal is to familiarize students with a variety of careers during their time in elementary school with the hope of sparking interest in future endeavors.

Below are some of the careers students will learn about this year:

Kinder: Civil Engineering, Health Science, Coding, Robotics

1st Grade: Environmental Engineering, Coding, Robotics

2nd Grade: Aerospace/Flight Principles, Structural Engineering, Coding, Robotics

3rd Grade: Mechanical Engineering, Forensic Science, Manufacturing/Production-3D printing, Coding, Robotics

4th Grade: Manufacturing Design, App/Game Development, Design Pre-Construction, Coding, Robotics

5th Grade: Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, Health Science, Alternative Energy, Coding, Robotics
