Northside ISD continues to enforce its “No Shots, No School” policy. Texas law requires all public school children have current immunizations in order to attend class.
In terms of my professional trajectory in NISD, I served as a Vice Principal for three years. I completed two years at Mead Elementary School and one year at Northwest Crossing Elementary School. Prior to serving as a school administrator, I was a fourth (2 years) and fifth (5 years) grade bilingual classroom teacher at Burke Elementary School. I also served as the Language Support Teacher at Fisher Elementary School.
I graduated from Rice University in 2002 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Sociology. I graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University in 2007 with my Master’s Degree in Elementary Bilingual Education. In 2012, I graduated from the University of Texas in San Antonio with my Doctorates Degree in Educational Leadership.
I believe education is the vehicle towards success and everyone deserves a quality education. No matter the person’s background, a quality education can help equalize differences among people. This is a belief I share with the Knowlton Knights. I look forward to meeting and getting to know you and your children.
"Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that a son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation. It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another." -Nelson Mandela

My name is Elizabeth Hernandez, and I am the proud Vice Principal of Knowlton Elementary. My career in education started when I graduated from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership also from Texas A&M- University-Kingsville in 2003. My first teaching job began in 1997 in Rio Grande City, TX at Immaculate Conception School as a 4th grade teacher. I then moved back to my hometown and taught at San Benito CISD for 2 years as a 1st grade teacher. My teaching experiences continued in United ISD in Laredo, TX, Southwest ISD, Northside ISD at Passmore Elementary and Mary Michael Elementary for a total of 10 years. I continued my career in NISD as an admin intern at Ward Elementary for one year. After that one year, I had the opportunity to help open a brand new campus as the Vice Principal of Rita Kay Driggers Elementary, and continued my work there for 8 years. Knowlton has now been my home for 5 years which I am happy to continue to be a part of!
