Warren Students at Graduation

Dual credit

A Dual Credit course is simply earning college credits for a course while taking it in high school. In other words, a student who takes a dual credit English course while here at Warren not only earns their high school English credit but is also earning 6 semester hours of college credit in English from Northwest Vista at the same time. Any student who is planning to take a Dual Credit course in high school is highly encouraged to contact the admissions office of their future college or university to check the acceptance or transferability of credits from Northwest Vista College.

There are several steps you must take in order to qualify for the Dual Credit program:

  1. You must apply to Northwest Vista College online through  the ApplyTexas.org website. The deadline to apply for the 2019-2020 school year is February 21st, 2020.
  2. All NEW dual credit students will be required to complete the AlamoENROLL Dual Credit Go FAARR and Test Prep modules as part of the application process. Three days after you have submitted your ApplyTexas application you can log into your ACES account (Northwest Vista College email system) and complete the test prep modules. These 2 modules MUST be completed before you can test (you must test to qualify). Stop by the Career Center, Mrs. Conway can help with this.
  3. When entering courses for next year, go ahead and enter dual credit courses if you are working on the process. However, all steps in the process must be completed to be officially enrolled in any dual credit course.
  4. Parental Consent forms and other paperwork must be completed and turned in no later than May 8, 2020. You can find the parent consent form when you log into ACES. It must be signed and uploaded by April 22nd.
  5. You are required to take the TSI Exam. (If you have taken the TSI before, you might not need to retest. Check with Mrs. Wade.) This is a college placement exam that tests your skills in reading, writing, and math. This is a computer based exam and there are minimum scores you must achieve in order to be eligible for dual credit classes. You will not be allowed to take the exam without showing proof of the completed test prep modules.

Copies of all forms can be found in the College and Career Center and the Counseling Office.
